Getting advice on your work visa

May 5, 2016 by SMP Magazine Leave a Comment

If you’ve recently gained a qualification and want to start your professional career in Australia, you’re probably considering getting a work visa to live and work in Australia.

Once you’ve secured a job in Australia, you may be eligible to apply for a work visa individually or alternatively, you can ask your employer to sponsor you if they meet the eligibility requirements to do so.

You can even choose to apply for permanent residency straight after completing your qualifications if you are eligible for this. And if you’ve recently graduated and are still looking to secure a job, you may be able to apply for a temporary visa to give yourself more time in Australia while job searching.

There are a variety of visa options for migrant professionals. Your eligibility for the various visa options depend on a number of factors including your qualifications, relevant work experience, , your English speaking ability, and whether you are required to pass a skills and points assessment.

When applying for a visa as a skilled migrant, you’ll also need to ensure you are eligible to nominate an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List or the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List issued by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. As part of Australia’s migration policy, the Government has compiled these occupations lists to reflect workforce needs in the Australian economy.

As all cases are individual, it’s important to get quality advice regarding your eligibility, visa options, and the steps you’ll need to take as part of the visa application process. Australia has an extensive number of visa subclasses and applying for an Australian visa can be complex and time-consuming without guidance on how migration legislation applies to your unique case.

Although you do have the option to self-manage your visa application, many individuals choose to use a migration agent to make the visa application process as stress-free as possible. A Registered Migration Agent has the knowledge and experience to liaise on your behalf with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), Australian State or Territory Government agencies and any regional certifying bodies or skills assessment authorities to progress your application.

Interstaff International specialise in providing immigration advice and have been one of Australia’s most trusted migration agencies for over 25 years. Its long-standing history in the migration industry is a reflection of its commitment to providing clarity on the requirements at every stage of the application process, as well as constant updates on the progress of clients’ applications.
