4 ways to find the right work-life balance

May 28, 2015 by Tommy Leave a Comment

How much balance do you have in your professional and personal life? Your answer will define if you have achieved work-life balance rightly or still need to get a grip.

When I look into technological advancements in routine, a comfortable thought of easy life comes to mind but truly make me realize that this is not the case. People keep on complaining of time shortage that keeps them away from a balanced life. Their workload hinders a happy personal life or their private responsibilities affect their career life. Every second person has issues related to striking a balance in work and personal life.

How to create right work balance?

First and foremost make up your mind that it’s not a ‘mission impossible’. Implement four simple ways and you can make it happen:

  1. Set Priorities, Simplify Things & Change Your Lifestyle

Life gets disturbed, unexpectedly when you make certain matters complicated. It’s all fine to take charge of your life but do not take too many responsibilities or tasks. If you do that you will gather a lot of stress.

It’s you who knows exactly how much you can do both in personal and professional worlds. Likewise, it is only you who can find a way out of your problems. Schedule everything and keep pace for urgent work. Streamline routine stuff, set priorities and develop a list to do -the best way to establish work-life balance.

  1. Avoid Procrastination & Learn Time Management

It is true that we often procrastinate at work. Yes, you are right some of us often show this attitude in personal life affairs too. But there it may not have such a drastic effect as it can have at workplace. If your work life is not running smoothly, it will have a negative impact on your personal life. Therefore, try to do well at work to keep problems away.

Overwhelming projects and time mismanagement issues usually lead to procrastination. Simple tactic to beat procrastination is to break down big tasks into smaller ones and doing each task at a time. Manage your time well for professional to personal accountabilities; do everything in set schedule and you will find the right work-life balance.

  1. Negotiate Any Change Or Problem To Relevant People (Boss and Family members)

Hesitation to discuss anything gives rise to more problems. Don’t be reluctant and raise your voice, talk to your boss for short term problems or permanent changes resulting from family situations. Prepare your case and negotiate with him that you will remain a good, dynamic, productive and truthful employee if he modifies work situation as you need.

Progressive employers recognize the value of productive employees. So, they remain willing to help them. If not, then explore other options and better switch your job and accept the opportunity on your terms.

Inside out, you must also talk to your family openly and make good adjustments for better work-life balance.

  1. Don’t Be a ‘YES’ Tag & Learn to Say ‘NO’

Remember, you are not a super hero. Keep on saying ‘Yes’ every time, to everyone and to any task, and it will make your life nothing but difficult. If you overlook natural human capacity to do anything and keep on accepting additional responsibilities at work or home, you will collapse soon. For this, you must learn to say ‘No’ to avoid overstraining.

The key point is ‘balance’. Take a moment and probe into what factors are making it difficult for you to achieve the right balance in your work-life. Get rid of any imbalance and everything will be perfect.
